Fun Activities For All
Welcome to our Themed activity challenges for Action ’21. You can try as many activities as you wish to from any of the themes. The activities are designed to be enjoyed as an individual at home with your family, with your Unit in virtual meetings, with your Unit at face-to-face meetings. You might even be trying the activities at a Unit / District or Division event for Action ’21. You can record the activities you have done on this fabulous ticksheet as well. Don't forget to share with us what you have done #bgoaction21.
Unit leaders – we hope that you will be able to find plenty of varied activities that you and the girls can choose, use, adapt or build on, during your Unit meetings. The original Guide promise has changed 12 times since the first promise in 1910. Our promise changes as we change with the world around us. What do you think your section promise should be in 30 years from now? That will be in 2051!
Take a look at our event bunting which you can use to decorate your room, your Unit meeting place or Action ’21 shelter.
So, get it ready before the event starts.
Download and print out our mascot onto paper or card.
Decorate her in any way you wish – for example use colour, paints, or collage.
We also need a name for our mascot, send in your suggestion to us, maybe it will be chosen!
We know how creative you all are and what fabulous ideas you have. So, get writing and send your poems to us!
Some of the poems may be read by our special BGO guests at our opening event on 8th May, if you get them to us quickly, or at our celebration event on 19th June. We can’t wait to read your poems!
Ready, steady … cook! Get ready to cook up a delicious international feast for your family or with your Unit, using recipes that you can find from countries around our BGO world.
What will follow Action ’21 in July 2022? Get creative and send us your ideas for our next event name and badge design. You never know, your design and event name could be chosen for all to see and hear in 2022!
Do you know how many countries there are in BGO? How much do you know about the other countries in our BGO world?
You could join us on Friday 7th May or Saturday 8th or at any time during the Action ’21 festival and have a go at sleeping somewhere different in your home, it could be indoors or outdoors, in a tent or a homemade shelter. Perhaps you could sleep out under the stars?
There are some amazing bridges around our BGO world. So, get constructing and build the longest, strongest or highest bridge that you can using some basic materials. Will your bridge be able to balance your promise badge, or a coin, or even our event mascot? We can’t wait to see how you did?
Fancy a chocolate treat – then join Shiny Kitchen’s chef Zoe and get creative by making some delicious choc chip cookies with a difference.
Or how about getting more technical with chocolate? Join Shiny Kitchen’s chef Zoe and whip up a scrumptious chocolate mousse which looks as good as it tastes!
Climbing? This normally means upwards! So, what are the highest natural points of our BGO world? Get stepping and challenge yourself to climb your way around our BGO world. How high will you climb, which peak will you reach the top of? Can you climb them all? You have the whole of the Festival to climb…

Whether you are camping, using a barbecue or at home in your kitchen, join Shiny Kitchen’s chef Zoe and make either a sweet treat of yummy chocolate stuffed doughballs or go savoury and have a go at some delicious salmon parcels. Get cooking!
Your mission is to land your ‘eggsplorer’ safely on Mars. Can you design and build your craft so that your egg has a soft landing and doesn’t get scrambled! Don’t forget to give your craft a special name and of course try to decorate it to give it that original Mars look!
Why not celebrate the future with a colourful pinwheel display. You could do a Rainbow of colours, maybe choose brown and yellow for Brownies, or blue and red for Guides, or turquoise and grey for Rangers. You might prefer to choose the colours of the flag of your BGO country.
The possibilities are endless!
Dance with Freya
It’s time to get active and creative! Have a go at some lively dancing with our own Freya.
Make a delicious fruity shake from your choice of fruits or even vegetables. Get creative and see what delicious drink you can invent for yourself!
Friendship bracelets are pretty bracelets which are given from one person to another, symbolising good friendships. Why not have a go at making several bracelets to give to your friends – remember to make one for yourself too!
Friendship knots link us together in a bond of friendship. So you could tie a friendship knot on a necker at wear it at Action ’21. How about making a USA Girl Scouts special ‘SWAP’ friendship knot? Then swap it with someone at Action ’21!
We all need to eat! You can protect our environment by eating foods that are better for the world around us. Everyone can do something to help! Why not make a start by growing your own herb garden?
Did you know that the oldest land animal in the world is reported to be a giant tortoise called Jonathan? He was hatched in 1832 and lives on the island of St Helena, part of BGO. How amazing! Get creative with Freya’s help and make your own model of Jonathan.

We need YOUR help to take our guiding of TODAY into TOMORROW. What will Guiding look like on its 150th birthday in 2060? Share your great ideas with us and TOGETHER we can shape the future of Guiding.
Nature is all around us, wherever we live, even in big cities. Being outside makes us feel good and helps us to be relaxed and stay healthy in body and mind. So why not have a go at making something for your own garden/balcony/communal area?
Why not try a Beetroot Tie-dye T-shirt? Or other fabric of your choice?
Tie-dyeing with natural vegetable dyes using COTTON material is great fun and can be your new upcycling hobby. Have a go at creating some wonderful designs using natural and recycled resources.
Shine your Guiding light at our Action 21 virtual campfire. See how easy it will be to create a stained-glass effect with tissue paper. Take your Guiding light with you to future camps and sleepovers.
Have a go at the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). Transform a flat sheet of paper into an amazing sculpture.
Most of us like to doodle, either when we are bored or watching television.
Doodling can be a great way to relax and be create something beautiful at the same time.
Get creating with plastic or fabric! We live in a world full of waste which we need to reduce. Help out now and create an amazing piece of artwork or something for your garden, balcony or a shared communal area. Or bring an old t-shirt to life as an amazing bag!
“Don’t be a litterbug. Be a wildlife protector and pick up litter!”
It’s Action ’21 – the perfect time to take action and get tidying something. Why not spruce up a local park, beach or garden area somewhere. Make a difference somewhere near to you.
Pampering yourself is a great way to relax and unwind. Take some time out of your day and focus on yourself. It’s a great way to look after yourself inside and out!
We all need time for ourselves. Take time to gently stretch, relax and treat yourselves to yoga with our own Freya or laugh your way to relaxation with Lyn, from Laughing Fit Cumbria.

Get ‘Tentastic’ and be the designer of a tent fit for our 125th guiding birthday in 2035! What will the guiding tent of the future look like?

When you get back from your walk or your scavenger hunt, what could be better than some easy homemade ice cream in a bag? A great fun activity whether you are at home with your family or working in groups in your Unit.
Have a go at creating the World Badge trefoil or promise trefoil out of natural materials. You could use leaves, twigs, sand, flowers or anything from the natural world!
